The prettiest place on the coast of NC?
If you have never visited Cape Lookout National Seashore and are a native of NC, you may need to turn in your card to being a citizen of NC! Just kidding, but seriously, the Shackleford Banks and Cape Lookout offer some of the most dramatic views available on the entire coast of NC! There are barrier islands and sand bars throughout the Core Sound where the wild horses roam, sawgrass grows in abundance, and the iconic Cape Lookout Lighthouse serves as a beacon to years gone by. At the end of Harkers Island, you can board a ferry that runs every half hour during the season for an amazing boat ride out to the Lighthouse Channel. On the ride you will skirt along the Shackleford Banks. Once you dock in front of the lighthouse, you can hang out on the soundside beach with the calm gentle waters that are perfect for kids to play in or walk across the narrow island to the Atlantic Ocean side. As for me, I like to relax in a beach chair close to the lighthouse and simply take in the views. The sunlight literally dances across the water which is blue-green in color. Pack a cooler, grab your beach chair and prepare to have one of the best days of your life. For more information, here is a link to the Cape Lookout National Seashore.
