Fort Macon State Park
This is one of my favorite spots here on the Crystal Coast. The park really checks a lot of boxes. It's terrific for history buffs as this is a fort that is rich in history, especially the Civil War era. For sightseers the views are some of the best available in all of Carteret County. It was perfect place for a Fort due to the vantage point of protecting the Beaufort Inlet. For hikers, there is a 3 mile hiking trail that meanders through live oaks, offering shade, as well as higher elevation portions that offer fantastic vistas. And for beach lovers, there is a great beach that is perfect for hanging out, fishing, picnicking and more. There is also a larger beach access and parking lot on the right as you come into the park.
If you are planning a vacation at the Crystal Coast, be sure to put Fort Macon on your To Do list while you are in town! Here is a link for more info: https://www.ncparks.gov/state-parks/fort-macon-state-park
Until next time! Dave
